Accounts Assistant
Role Purpose
The General Ledger Accounts Assistant supports the accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of the organisation’s financial records. This role is responsible for assisting in the preparation and maintenance of the general ledger, performing reconciliations, supporting month-end and year-end close activities, and ensuring compliance with financial policies, controls, and relevant accounting standards.
Key Responsibilities
General Ledger Management
Assist with posting journals, accruals, prepayments, and other general ledger entries.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date ledger accounts.
Support the reconciliation of balance sheet accounts (e.g., bank, intercompany, fixed assets, accruals).
Month-End & Year-End Close
Assist with the month-end close process, ensuring deadlines are met.
Prepare routine schedules and supporting documentation for month-end and audit.
Support year-end close by gathering data, preparing reconciliations, and responding to audit queries.
Reconciliations & Financial Controls
Perform daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliations in line with internal control requirements.
Highlight discrepancies, investigate variances, and propose corrective actions.
Ensure financial data is compliant with internal policies, GAAP and audit requirements.
Accounts Support
Assist with maintaining the fixed asset register and processing asset additions/disposals.
Support intercompany postings, confirmations, and reconciliation processes.
Collaborate with AP, AR to ensure accurate and complete financial records.
Reporting & Analysis
Prepare standard and ad‑hoc financial reports as required.
Assist with variance analysis, budget monitoring, and query resolution.
Process Improvement
Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes.
Assist with system upgrades, automation initiatives, or finance transformation activities.
Skills & Competencies
Technical Skills
Sound understanding of double‑entry bookkeeping and accounting principles.
Proficiency in Excel (VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, pivot tables, formulas).
Experience with ERP/finance systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Netsuite, Dynamics) is desirable.
Soft Skills
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Effective communication skills for working with colleagues across finance and operations.
Organised and able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Qualifications & Experience
PQ ACCA/ ACA or AAT or equivalent (or working towards) preferred.
1–2 years’ experience in a finance or accounting role (or relevant internship/placement).
Knowledge of GAAP is an advantage.
Experience in a shared service or medium–large finance team desirable but not essential.
