The Role
As an Automations Engineer, you will design, build, and maintain automation solutions that enhance the efficiency, reliability, and scalability of managed services operations. Your role focuses on reducing manual effort, improving service consistency, and ensuring proactive issue detection through scripting, workflow automation, and integrated monitoring. You’ll work closely with service delivery, infrastructure, and security teams to automate processes across endpoint management, patching, monitoring, and service workflows.
Day-to-day at Ekco:
Automation Design & Development
Develop, optimize, and maintain automation scripts and policies using PowerShell, Python, Bash, or similar scripting languages.
Build automated workflows to reduce manual intervention in tasks such as onboarding, configuration management, reporting, and maintenance checks.
Implement event‑driven automations to proactively detect and resolve issues before they impact users.
Ensure automations follow coding best practices, include proper documentation, and support version control.
Workflow & Systems Automation
Create and manage workflow automations within ITSM and service platforms (FreshService workflow automations highly beneficial).
Integrate automation across multiple systems, including monitoring tools, endpoint management platforms, and cloud services.
Identify repetitive tasks and processes across teams and convert them into scalable, automated solutions.
Monitoring & Observability Enhancements
Develop smart monitoring and alerting logic using custom scripts, APIs, and automation rules.
Continuously improve alert quality by refining thresholds, correlating events, and minimizing noise.
Automate diagnostics and self‑healing routines to accelerate issue resolution.
Patch & Update Automation
Build automated patching workflows for operating systems and applications across client environments.
Validate patch deployments, remediate failures with automated actions where possible, and ensure compliance with security standards.
Maintain automated reporting to track patch health, compliance, and outstanding risks.
Operational Support & Continuous Improvement
Analyse operational data to identify automation opportunities and efficiency improvements.
Collaborate with Service Delivery and Engineering teams to ensure automations align with business needs and support customer SLAs.
Troubleshoot automation failures, script issues, scheduled tasks, and integrations.
Maintain documentation, diagrams, and knowledge articles for all automation solutions.
Skills & Experience Required
Strong experience with scripting languages (PowerShell essential; Python and Bash desirable).
Background in automation within IT operations, managed services, or infrastructure environments.
Understanding of monitoring, patching, and endpoint management concepts.
Familiarity with ITSM platforms (FreshService preferred).
Experience with APIs, REST calls, and data manipulation for system integrations.
Analytical mindset with the ability to identify operational inefficiencies and design effective automated solutions.
