The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Network Engineer with extensive experience in configuring, managing, and troubleshooting Cisco routers and switches, Fortinet firewalls, and HP switches.
The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of networking protocols, security best practices, and hands-on experience with these technologies to support a high-performing and secure network environment.
This position requires both independent work and collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure network stability, scalability, and security.
Day-to-day at Ekco:
Network Design & Implementation:
Design, configure, and deploy complex network infrastructure with Cisco routers/switches, HP switches, and Fortinet firewalls.
Ensure high availability, scalability, and performance of network services to meet business requirements.
Conduct regular network architecture reviews and optimise for efficiency and reliability.
Network Maintenance & Monitoring:
Monitor network performance, availability, and capacity using tools like, FortiManager, SolarWinds, PRTG, Auvik etc.
Perform regular firmware and software updates for Cisco, Fortinet, and HP equipment.
Diagnose and troubleshoot network-related issues, ensuring minimal downtime and quick resolution.
Security & Firewalls:
Manage and configure FortiGate firewalls, including VPNs, NAT, intrusion prevention, and security policies.
Implement and maintain network security best practices and technologies across Cisco, Fortigate and HP devices.
Perform regular security audits, vulnerability assessments, and respond to security incidents.
Collaboration & Support:
Collaborate with the wider teams to integrate network systems with cloud services, remote access, and other IT infrastructure.
Work closely with systems engineers, administrators, and other stakeholders to support business projects and day-to-day operations.
Provide Level 2/3 support and mentoring for junior network engineers, Service Desk and technical staff.
Documentation & Compliance:
Maintain detailed documentation for all network infrastructure, configurations, and changes.
Key Requirements
Strong hands-on experience with Cisco networking technologies (routers, switches, firewalls and wireless devices), including Nexus, ISR and ASA platforms.
Strong hands-on experience with FortiGate firewalls, including firewall policy management, VPN, IPSec, SSL VPN, and Web Filtering.
Experience with HP (HPE Aruba) switches in large enterprise environments, including VLANs, trunking, and spanning tree protocols.
Strong knowledge of Layer 2/3 networking protocols, such as STP, VTP, MST, VRRP, OSPF and BGP.
Strong understanding of network security best practices and technologies (IPSEC, VPNs, UTM, IDS/IPS and Qualys).
Working knowledge of Barracuda Firewalls
