The role
We are seeking an Automation Engineer to deliver high impact automation solutions within our Central Services team. This is a results driven role, requiring a strong focus on outcomes and efficiency. You will be responsible for rapidly developing and deploying automation scripts across various environments, helping reduce manual effort, improve reliability, and enhance the performance of the Service Delivery teams.
You will work closely with stakeholders to identify opportunities, deliver tangible improvements, and ensure that automation initiatives align with business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Rapidly design, develop, and deliver automation scripts using various scripting languages (e.g. PowerShell, Python, Bash).
- Collaborate with Service Delivery teams to identify manual or repetitive processes that can be automated.
- Ensure delivered solutions are reliable, secure, and well documented.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues in automation workflows to minimise downtime and maximise efficiency.
- Support time-sensitive projects such as migrations, upgrades, and service improvements through automation.
- Deliver measurable results against agreed milestones and objectives.
Key Requirements
- Strong experience in one or more scripting languages (e.g. PowerShell, Python, Bash) with the ability to work flexibly across others.
- Proven track record of delivering automation in enterprise IT environments.
- Solid understanding of Microsoft infrastructure and services (e.g. Active Directory, Microsoft 365, Windows Server).
- Familiarity with version control tools such as Git.
- Experience working with ITSM systems such as FreshService, ServiceNow etc
- Strong problem solving skills with the ability to deliver practical, working solutions at pace.
- Ability to produce concise technical documentation that supports maintainability and handover.
Desirable:
- Exposure to cloud platforms (Azure) and their automation toolsets.
- Experience with automation and configuration management frameworks (e.g. Ansible, Terraform, DSC).
- Background working within an MSP.
